DIY experts explain the tips for Hardwood floor caring

  • This info-graphic titled ‘DIY experts explain the tips for Hardwood floor caring provides us few tips to up keep hardwood floors. Wooden floors start out rough. After the portions are planed for a smooth finish, a tongue and grooved channel is cut into their sides. Parquet floors are made with much the same procedure. Engineered floors are developed from several layers of wood veneer pressed tightly together. One advantage of engineered floors is that they can be laid immediately on top of concrete slabs.

The finish on the floor will partially determine the best method of floor care. In general, caring for waxed wood floors is the identical as caring for those coated in polyurethane -- but there are some fluctuations. Waxed floors should be cleansed with a cleaning/waxing compound that lifts out dirt and adds a coat of fresh-cut wax. Polyurethane-coated floors should be cleansed with acetic acid and water.

First, though, find out if the floor is cloaked with wax or polyurethane. To find out, drip some water up on the floor. If the water beads and remains on top of the floor, it's likely polyurethane; if it soaks in a few minutes, the floor is likely coated with wax. Another way to tell is to wipe the floor with a piece of cloth dampened with mineral spirits. If the floor is waxed, the cloth will evolve a waxy feel.
